If You Go to Vegas, You Have to See Blue Man Group

I don’t care that you might have seen Blue Man in whatever hometown you claim. If you go to Vegas, you have to go see Blue Man Group. Don’t waste your money on some dried-up ‘entertainer’ or some tribute show. You can even wait and see one of the Cirque shows on their tours. You aren’t going to get the same show if you wait to see Blue Man.

You know the story about Blue Man Group, so I’ll save the background. You can go to their website to learn more about them. Instead, I want to tell you the story about this show and how I got tickets for it.

A couple of days before I was leaving for Vegas, I saw a blog post saying that if you have a blog, you can get free tickets to a show. I have a blog, so I put my name in and gave them the three shows I’d like to see. I didn’t hear anything back, so I was worried I wouldn’t get the tickets. No matter, I still had a lot to do and a lot more to worry about. Did I ever say I don’t like to fly? I don’t and it causes a lot of stress before I do it. The day before I leave, I get an email saying I could pick up my tickets for the Monday show of Ka.

Oops! I don’t get in until really late Monday night and I can’t make the show. So I send an email, figuring it was too late. Well, it wasn’t. On Tuesday, I got another email saying that I have two tickets waiting on me at the door to Blue Man. I was jazzed!

I grab Ben and tell him he’s coming with me and we set off for the show. From the beginning, I was impressed with the place. The Blue Man Theater is at the Venetian, which is my favorite resort/casino in Vegas, and they really do up the decor. The only thing I didn’t like is paying 7 bucks for a drink. $7 for a beer? Come on.

Before the show, everyone takes their seats and are given some white paper and told to be creative. I did and made a nice headband complete with pigtails and a braided pony. I wished I would have taken a picture, but my phone at the time sucked.

The show itself was hilarious, toe-tapping, and sure to get your juices flowing. It is amazing how they do some of the things they do with the instruments, lights and effects they have. The reason I say you need to go see the show at the theater is that they have some things there that they just couldn’t take with them easily. Things that make the show even more spectacular. And that’s what it is, spectacular. Now, granted, this is the first time I’ve seen them (other than that PBS special) but I was surprised at the humor and cool-factor that the guys brought. I really thought it would basically be a music show. It isn’t. They do music, and a lot of really cool music. But their props and ‘jokes’ are simply amazing.

After the show, we had the chance to meet one of the Blue guys and he left his mark on my ticket stub. That blue stuff never dried…I had to wipe most of it off, but it did leave a nice blue residue mark that I have displayed in my cube. There’s also a stain on my shirt, my pants, and the bedspread in the Sahara.
