The Cake is a Lie
I know the game has been out for a while now, but there are still quite a few people on my friends list still playing. Sure there are many more playing Halo3, but there is enough there to warrant me trying it out as a rental. So, last weekend I popped into the local Blockbuster and traded in a ‘Blockbuster Online’ envelope for it (at half-price.)I am not going into a lengthy review, since most of you have read it somewhere else. These are my opinions on the three seperate sections of the game. Yes, it is true that you get 3 fully-playable games for the price of 1. Joy.
Team Fortress 2: For about two hours, this game was a lot of fun. Some interesting character models and funny dialog. Then the game types started getting boring and the dialog got irritating. There isn’t a lot of diversity in either, and you can’t choose more than the weapons you start with. Very limiting. It was good for a while, but soon I started wondering what else was on the disk.
Half-Life 2: I enjoyed playing the first Half-Life on the PC, so I had high hopes for this. I am sorry, this game may SAY it has been updated for the next-gen console, but it felt like it should be on an old Xbox or a PS2. I got through the first level before I turned it off. I haven’t wanted to put it back in since.
Portal: The ONLY negative thing I have to say about this game is that it is too short. I loved the game and nearly had trouble turning it back in to Blockbuster on time. The game is ruthlessly addictive and a whole lot of fun. Love the controls, the levels and the dialog. ‘The Cake is a Lie’ is the best in-game graffiti ever!

You owe it to yourself to rent The Orange Box and play Portal. I don’t care if you play the other two games. Whatever you do, don’t spend the money for the full price as you aren’t getting the deal you thought you were getting.
RENT IT!
