R.I.P. Guitar Hero 2

Guitar Hero 2 was just released for the Xbox 360, and the Internet is fired up about it. Most of the individual results are extremely popular, so why are so many saying that the title will soon be obsolute?

In a wonderful ploy for buzz, Harmonix chose the release date of GH2 to announce that they are creating a new game that takes interactive video game music to a whole new level. The game is ‘cleverly’ titled Rock Band. From the news release, the game is supposed to support 4 new peripherals: two guitars ( lead and bass,) a drum kit, and a microphone. The game will be for both the 360 and the PS3 and will allow folks all across the Internet to jam with each other. Out just in time for Christmas, I can already hear the horrible music that will be made, and the unreal amounts of bandwidth that will be sucked up by this waste of time.

Nah, it won’t be that bad. Well…maybe it will. When you find out that MTV is actually the owner of Harmonix and will be helping supply the music, one can only guess what we’re going to be exposed to.
