Microsoft Launches Xbox Rewards
Microsoft has launched a new program that makes their achievement points mean more than just bragging rights. You can now actually get stuff for the points you accumulate over time.
From what I gathered from the site (www.xbox.com/rewards,) there will be multiple challenges sponsored by advertisers. Each challenge is something you have to sign up for individually (linked to your Live Passport and GamerTag,) and each has its own set of rewards for the folks who complete the challenges.
When you register, you are placed in a rank based on your gamerscore and shown the challenges that are open to you.
Right now, there is only the Old Spice Challenge available, but there seems to be the capacity for many more to be running at the same time. The giveaways seem to be fairly good: gamer pics, MS points, Xbox Live Arcade games, and t-shirts and the challenges look to be actually achievable. In the Old Spice Challenge, you have to earn 1500 achievement points before April 12th when the challenge expires.
I signed up for the challenge and found the experience to be rather simple. You have to have your Live Passport fairly well complete (I didn’t have my birthday set, and had to do it before I could register,) but filling it out doesn’t take long to do.
If I can actually earn that many points in the allotted time, I’ll post about the rest of the experience.
