Halo 3 Beta

I posted a few days ago about not being selected in the first round of the Halo 3 Multiplayer beta. I now have a bit more information about the next two rounds of the beta test period and how people can get on board.

The first way, and ultimately the one that Microsoft would be most happy with, is by preordering specially marked versions of the game Crackdown. I wasn’t sure that this was true at first, but my local GameStop clerk said it was true and they had a few more slots left for that version. If you’re planning on getting Crackdown, go ahead and preorder it. Oh, and you have to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber with an Xbox 360 to participate.

Crackdown is a superhero/cop Grand Theft Auto/Ultimate Spider-Man style game (meaning, you can roam freely around the map and do damage to just about anything) where you fight crime and perform missions that make the city a better place to live. The game is rated M, so perhaps the beta runners are targeting the older crowd with this path into the beta. I hope that we aren’t flooded with teenagers who had their parents by the game for them. Come on parents! The ratings are there for a reason!

The third way takes some time and a little bit of luck.

Here is a portion of the email that went out to Xbox.com members/subscribers.

It is a two-step process:
1. Participate in at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions on your Xbox 360 console via Xbox Live during the three (3) day period beginning February 1st (Thursday) at 12:01 am EST and ending February 3rd (Saturday) at 11:59 pm EST.
2. After the three day window is over, head back over to www.halo3.com on February 5th and register.

If you are one of the FIRST 13,333 to do this (and meet the above requirements) you will receive an invite notification in February to participate in the Halo 3 Beta.

There you have it. If you have Halo 2 and are only wanting to get Crackdown for the beta, go ahead and try the other way first. If you get the invite, transfer your pre-purchase to that copy of Legendary Halo 3 you have your eye on.
